“When one is in Egypt, one should delve deeply into its treasures.”

On our James Bond in Egypt Tour, you can follow James’s route around Egypt in The Spy Who Loved Me, where he meets the beautiful Russian spy, Major Anya Amasova, and battles with the formidable Jaws.

Feel the excitement of visiting some of the stunning locations where the movie was filmed.

Will James find the plans for the submarine? Will Major Anya double-cross him? Will they find love?

Well, you’ll have to watch the film to find out, and then join our Aswan, Luxor, and Cairo private tours to experience the country as James and Anya did.

James Bond in Egypt Tour Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Cairo

We will pick you up from your chosen location. If you are flying into Cairo, this includes full meet and greet service as soon as you disembark from your plane, including tourist visa if required. We will then transport you to your 5-star hotel.

Overnight Cairo

Day 2Islamic Cairo

Today our first stop today be in old Islamic Cairo. Here we will find the wonderful Ibn Tulun Mosque, the oldest mosque in Africa, which James walks through on the way to his meeting with Aziz Fekkesh. It is built around an open square courtyard which allows natural light to travel through the building and features decorations created from carved stucco and wood.

A short drive will take us to the charming Gayer Anderson Museum, a 16th Century house that was restored between 1935 and 1942. This is where James meets the beautiful Naomi and ends up in a fight. The museum has truly stunning Islamic architecture and is full of antiquities and artworks acquired by John Gayer Anderson on his travels. Don’t miss the traditional lattice work called mashrabiyya, and the beautifully restored rooftop terrace.

After the Gayer Anderson we will head down to Khan Al Khalili where we will enjoy lunch in the Naguib Mahfouz restaurant, and then enjoy a stroll round the ancient souq. Built in the 14th century, Khan Al Khalili features several times in The Spy Who Loved Me and is a vibrant mix of stores selling anything from spices, gold, alabaster and lanterns, to toy camels and plastic pyramids. You’ll find many things to tempt you, why not have a go at bartering?

Once we’ve finished our shopping we head over to the Pyramids for the spectacular sound and light show during which James has his first encounter with Jaws. The sound and light show narrates the history of the great kings Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure.

Overnight Cairo

Day 3Sakkara Oasis & Luxor

This morning we’ll head out to Sakkara Oasis, where James meets his old school friend Sheikh Hosein to see what he can find out about the submarine tracking system (and partake of some other activities). If you’re feeling brave, you can ride a camel in the desert just like James Bond! During this trip you will have the opportunity to explore the rest of Sakkara, the necropolis for the ancient city of Memphis. Your guide will discuss with you the things you most want to see to make the most of your visit.

Afternoon – Fly to Luxor

Overnight Luxor

Day 4Explore Luxor

James and Anya hide in Jaws’ van and end up in Luxor. The fight between them and Jaws was filmed in two different locations, Karnak Temple and Medinet Habu Temple. Today we will visit both of these extraordinary sites.

The temple complex of Karnak is the largest in Egypt and in fact in the world. Karnak’s construction is diverse because at least thirty different pharaohs built the precincts. As you stand amongst the pillars in Karnak (ballgowns and dinner jackets optional) you can soak in the atmosphere of Ancient Egypt as Anya and James dodge Jaws in this ancient and beautiful temple.

Medinet Habu is mortuary temple of Ramses III and is located on the west bank of Luxor, so we will take a quick boat trip across the river. Although somewhat resembling a building site in The Spy Who Loved Me, Medinet Habu is in fact well over 3,000 years old, and another stunning site to wander around. You can spot the scenes from the movie, hide behind some pillars and pretend to be James Bond, or Major Anya. Or even Jaws?

Tonight, you will experience a sunset felucca trip, and imagine you’re going to sail all the way to Cairo in your felucca. Hold on tight to the microfilm though…

Overnight in Luxor

Day 5 Abu Simbel

An early start today as we drive across the desert just like James and Anya after they left Medinet Habu Temple, although thankfully our transport will be in better condition than Jaws’ van! In the film, James appears to walk a short distance and end up at Abu Simbel Temple, but it’s a bit further than that. We’ll make sure the journey is as comfortable and entertaining as possible.

The Great Temple of Abu Simbel is in Nubia, near Egypt’s southern border. It is among the most awe-inspiring monuments of Egypt. It was cut into the living rock by King Ramesses II. It was moved from its original location in 1968 after the Aswan High Dam was built. Even more astonishingly, in The Spy Who Loved Me, the British and Russian governments have set up an office inside the temple!

Overnight in Abu Simbel

Day 6 Aswan

Sadly, today we say goodbye to James and Anya as they head off to Italy. We will take you to Aswan where you have several options, including catching the sleeper train from Aswan to Cairo, as James and Anya did. Maybe you will even meet Jaws! Alternatively, we will fly you back to Cairo, or there are many other options. Stay in Luxor for a few days, take a cruise to Luxor, enjoy a relaxing time at the Red Sea, or many other options. We will be happy to discuss these with you.
